The best FiveM livery creators in 2026
Updated October 11, 2026 · 8 min read
FiveM livery tools fall into two groups. THE ORB Studio, gtax.dev and EasyFiveM show the livery on a 3D car while you design it, and give you a file or a resource to install. Zoov's editor and plugin, and the manual route with OpenIV or CodeWalker, edit the texture inside the car's .ytd and leave the install to you. The Workshop previews your PSD, PDN or XCF file on a 3D car.
We make THE ORB Studio, one of the tools on this page. What this page says about other tools comes from each tool's own public page, read on October 11, 2026. Tools change: check their site before you decide.
How we compared them
We make THE ORB Studio, so this page is not neutral. To keep it fair, every line about another tool comes from that tool's own public page, read on 11 October 2026, and anything we could not check there is left out. That includes prices: plans change often, so check them on each site.
Each tool is described by the same four things:
- What you start from: a car from the game, or your own .yft and .ytd files.
- Where you design: on a 3D car, on the flat UV sheet, or in an image editor.
- What you download: a texture, a .ytd, or a resource ready to install.
- What is left for you to do before the livery shows up in game.
The tools side by side
| Tool | Starts from | Where you design | What you download |
|---|---|---|---|
| THE ORB Studio (Vehicle Creator and Livery Creator) | Any of the 887 GTA V vehicles in its garage, with their factory liveries. Or your own .yft, .yft.xml or resource zip (paid plan or Pro Pass). | On the 3D car and the UV sheet at the same time. | A resource with the texture or the model, the meta files and a client script. The Livery Creator also saves the livery sheet and the UV template as PNG. |
| gtax.dev, Create Vehicle Livery | Your vehicle .yft and its .ytd. | On a projected UV atlas with a live 3D preview, with brush, eraser, text, image and AI paint tools. | A PNG, a rebuilt YTD, an add-on dlc.rpf, a FiveM zip or a RAGE:MP zip. |
| Zoov (UV map, Browser Editor, Toolkit plugin) | Your .yft (UV map tool) or your .ytd (editor and plugin). | In Photopea or Photoshop through their plugin, or by importing an image over a texture in their browser editor. | The updated .ytd. The UV map tool writes the .yft back with a livery surface. |
| The Workshop, Paint Booth | Textures you upload. | In your PSD, PDN or XCF file, previewed on 3D models in real time. | Their home page lists PSD and PDN export for Paint Booth, and a separate tool (PackBench) that builds the resource zip. |
| EasyFiveM, Vehicle Studio | Your .yft and .ytd, a resource zip or a .yft.xml. | With a 3D preview: body colour, text, logos and a brush. | A FiveM car pack. |
| By hand: an image editor plus OpenIV or CodeWalker | The car's .ytd, taken from the game files. | On the flat texture, in Photoshop, GIMP or Photopea. | Whatever you build: usually the edited .ytd inside your own resource. |
THE ORB Studio
The same livery editor sits in two of our tools, and they put the livery in different places.
In the Vehicle Creator the livery is one step of building a car. The design is baked into a new model with its own spawn name, together with the parts, wheels and paint you picked, and the game's original car is not touched. You can start from one of the car's factory liveries.
The Livery Creator puts the design on the game's own car. On a car with texture liveries it replaces one of them through a client script (AddReplaceTexture), so Rockstar's .ytd is never shipped in your resource. On a car with mod kit liveries it can also add yours as a new option in the mod shop. On a car the game gave no livery, it can ship that car's model with the body switched to a livery shader. A video or GIF layer makes the livery animated in game; it only plays while one of those vehicles is within 150 m.
Images and text are projected onto the bodywork and baked into the sheet, so they cross UV seams and read the right way on both sides. You can also import a finished PNG, .ytd or .dds.
Limits: uploading your own car needs a paid plan or the Pro Pass. Free to try with your Discord login: 10 exports the first month and 5 a month after on the Free plan, unlimited on any paid plan. See pricing.
gtax.dev
gtax.dev's Create Vehicle Livery starts from a vehicle .yft and its .ytd that you drop in. You paint on a projected UV atlas with brush, eraser, text and image layers, or generate artwork with their AI texture panel, and watch each stroke on the 3D vehicle. It exports a PNG, a rebuilt YTD, or an add-on dlc.rpf, FiveM zip or RAGE:MP zip set up for SET_VEHICLE_LIVERY.
Their page says decoding, painting and packing run in your browser, and that AI generation runs on their server. Sign-in is with Discord. The same site also lists a Vehicle UV Mapper and a YFT Livery Creator (beta).
Choose it if you already have the car's files and want a PNG or a .ytd to package yourself, or you also make liveries for RAGE:MP.
Zoov
Zoov splits the job into separate tools. Its UV map tool takes a .yft and lays a flat UV over the parts you pick, so a car without a livery surface gets one. For the painting, their guide "Creating a livery for a mapped vehicle" lists four methods: their Toolkit plugin, which opens the .ytd inside Photopea or Photoshop and writes it back; their Browser Editor, where you import an image over a texture in the .ytd; and CodeWalker or OpenIV in edit mode. You name the texture to match the slot the car expects and load the .ytd in game yourself.
Choose it if you design in Photoshop or Photopea and want to keep working in layered files.
The Workshop
The Workshop's Paint Booth previews your livery on 3D models in real time and works with PSD, PDN and XCF files for live editing. Paint Booth Studio adds a layered canvas next to the 3D preview. The same site lists UV Studio (renders the UV template of a model that is mapped but missing its template), Easy Meta (writes vehicles.meta, handling.meta, carvariations.meta and carcols.meta) and PackBench (builds a resource zip from .yft, .ytd and meta files). The Paint Booth page asks you to sign in, and there is a public demo.
Choose it if you paint in Photoshop, Paint.NET or GIMP and want to see the file on the car while you edit it.
EasyFiveM
EasyFiveM's Vehicle Studio opens your .yft and .ytd, a resource zip or a .yft.xml. Besides painting (body colour, text, logos and a brush), it removes badges and adds parts such as spoilers and bumper bars, and exports a FiveM car pack. Sign-in is with Discord.
Choose it if you bring your own car files and want to edit the body in the same tool.
By hand: an image editor plus OpenIV or CodeWalker
Open the car's .ytd in OpenIV or CodeWalker, export the livery texture, paint over it at the same size in Photoshop, GIMP or Photopea, import it back with the same name, and stream the .ytd from your own resource. OpenIV, CodeWalker, GIMP and Photopea cost nothing, and you control every pixel. It is also the slowest route: the sheet is cut into rotated and stretched pieces, and you only see the result in game after each restart.
The full steps, for both kinds of livery, are in How to add a custom livery to a FiveM car. To skip the extraction, the factory livery sheets of 548 vehicles are in Livery templates.
Which one to pick
- You have no car files, just a car from the game: THE ORB Studio has every GTA V vehicle and its factory liveries built in. The pages we read for the other tools describe starting from files you bring.
- You want a PNG or a .ytd to package yourself: gtax.dev, or the PNG download of our Livery Creator.
- You design in Photoshop, Photopea, Paint.NET or GIMP: Zoov's plugin or The Workshop's Paint Booth.
- You want a new car with its own spawn name, not only a livery: our Vehicle Creator, or EasyFiveM's Vehicle Studio for your own .yft.
- You want an animated livery: our Livery Creator takes a video or a GIF. None of the other pages we read mention animated liveries.
- You want full control at no cost: the route by hand.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best FiveM livery creator?
It depends on what you start from. With only a car from the game, a tool that has the game's cars built in, such as THE ORB Studio, saves you extracting files. If you already have the .yft and .ytd and want a texture to package yourself, gtax.dev exports PNG and YTD. If you design in Photoshop, Zoov's plugin and The Workshop's Paint Booth work from your layered file.
Can I make a FiveM livery for free?
Yes. The route by hand costs nothing with OpenIV or CodeWalker plus GIMP or Photopea. THE ORB Studio's Free plan gives 10 exports the first month and 5 a month after. For the other tools, check each one's pricing page.
Do I need Photoshop to make a FiveM livery?
No. Tools with their own paint tools and a 3D preview (THE ORB Studio, gtax.dev, EasyFiveM) need no image editor. For the route by hand, GIMP and Photopea open and save the same textures.
Can I add a livery without removing the factory ones?
On a car with mod kit liveries, yes: a new livery can be added as an extra option in the mod shop. On a car with texture liveries, your design takes the place of one of the existing liveries.
Does a custom livery work on ESX and QBCore?
Yes. A livery is a texture or a resource, not a framework feature, so it works the same on any framework. Garages and mod shops that let players pick a livery show it like any other.
